Local author Krista Johansen has reason to celebrate with the publication of her third book, Pippin Takes a Bath. A delightful picture book for pre-school to elementary age children, Pippin Takes a Bath will have a broad appeal. Vibrant coloured illustrations with an almost cartoon-like appearance make the story leap off the pages.
Pippin is a cute yellow dog with big ears and a curly tail who loves to play in the mud and hates to take baths. Her owner, Mabel, won’t let her into the house without a bath, so the chase is on. Their antics during the chase will have children howling with laughter. Then Pippin encounters a skunk, and suddenly taking a bath becomes a good idea after all. This is the first book in a planned series of Pippin and Mabel adventures. The second book, Pippin and the Bones, will be published in the spring of 2000.
K.V. Johansen’s first novel, Torrie and the Dragon, was for middle readers. A delightful tale of a prince whose kingdom is threatened by a dragon, and the sorceress who saves the day and wins his heart, this story was a hit with children of all ages. Her second book was an adult publication entitled The Serpent Bride. This is a collection of short stories derived from medieval Danish ballads that owe much to the mythology of the pagan Norse.
